Volunteer Application

Friday Night Jazz runs on the energy and care of its volunteers. Every volunteer receives role training, free entry to the concert, and dinner on the nights they serve. Volunteers arrive by 5:00 PM and are released when their post wraps up — between 8:00 and 10:00 PM depending on the role.

Check every position you'd like to be considered for. Full training is provided for all roles.

Door Attendant / Food Service Cashier · 8 openings (rotating) Greet guests, scan and sell tickets at the door, or run checkout in the downstairs café. Handles cash and credit cards — cash-management experience and financial acumen needed. Floor Host · 6 openings Usher on the upper or lower level: help guests find seats (with special care for physically challenged attendees), smooth over seating conflicts, keep restrooms stocked, and help keep the café area fresh. Sound Manager · 4 openings Run our portable PA system, set the stage from the musicians' stage plot, and break down after the show. Straightforward to learn — full training provided. Food Service Attendant · 4 openings Serve plated and to-go dinners with pre-defined portions, keep snacks and drinks stocked, and clean the warming dishes and serving line. Parking Attendant · 4 openings Direct cars on the church lot to maximize spaces, check pre-paid parking and take card payments (no cash on the lot), and keep an eye on the lot through the evening. About background checks: For the safety of our guests, our volunteers, and the program, every Jazz Night in Southwest DC volunteer — new and returning, including program leadership — completes a background check before serving. Jazz Night in Southwest DC coordinates the process and keeps results confidential. This uniform policy is standard for community organizations like ours; it is how we protect everyone equally.
